Robert Stevenson has over 25 years experience prosecuting world-wide patents and handling U.S. and international patent litigation involving the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, chemical, diagnostic, polymer, cosmetics, refrigeration, clinical trial and medical device arts. He has been counsel of record in 22 federal patent litigation matters and has supervised international litigation as well. He also has been counsel of record in 7 patent interferences and a number of patent re-examinations and reissue applications.
Mr. Stevenson also has done a great deal of work involving mechanical devices, particularly medical devices —most particularly, oximetry catheters and monitors, automated IV infusion pumps and cassettes and drug delivery devices. Some of these devices have been commercialized, including the Plum patient infusion system and the Add-Vantage drug delivery system.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stevenson was Senior Strategic Patent Counsel for Rohm and Haas where he was involved in the world-wide patent procurement and U.S. and Chinese patent litigation matters. He also has served as Vice President and Assistant Secretary of Cell Pathways (now part of OSI Pharmaceuticals), a pharmaceutical company specializing in small molecule and new biological targets for the treatment of cancer. Earlier in his career, he was Senior Patent Counsel to Abbott Laboratories. His private practice experience includes serving as a partner and former chair of the Pharmaceutical and Biotech Practice Group of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, a prominent Chicago patent law firm.
A past adjunct professor of Patent Law at DePaul University School of Law, Mr. Stevenson is a member of the Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois State Bars and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A graduate of Penn State (with distinction B.S. 1977), he received his Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan (M.S. 1979) and his law degree from Wayne State University (J.D. 1982).
