Dr. Murphy's practice includes the drafting and prosecution of patents in the biotechnological, chemical, and pharmaceutical arts. He prepares Paragraph IV Certifications for submission to the FDA with ANDA filings, and also Paragraph IV Certification Notice Letters. Dr. Murphy also counsels clients with regard to the scope of the coverage of their intellectual property, and their freedom to operate. Dr. Murphy has been involved in the prosecution of Inter Partes Reexaminations, and prosecution before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Murphy worked for 6 years in the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Biotechnology Patent Examiner with Full Signatory Authority and was a Master's Level Examiner for patents in the biotechnological arts. Dr. Murphy received his Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Virginia in 1997. He did his post-doctoral fellowship at the A.I. DuPont Institute in the Epithelial Cell Biology Laboratory. From 1997 to 1999, he served as a Post Doctoral Scientist for Message Pharmaceuticals, Inc. developing assays for secondary screening of compounds that target RNA.
